For most of her life, Linda Moore dreamed of becoming a writer—but life, with all its joys and demands, took her down other paths first. A proud mother of two and grandmother of four, Moore built a distinguished career as a visionary educator and activist. She is recognized both locally and nationally for her groundbreaking work in creating and supporting innovative, high-quality charter schools.
In 1998, she founded the Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School, named in honor of her mother, an educator who taught in Arkansas during both the Jim Crow era and the years following the landmark Brown v. Board of Education decision. Serving pre-kindergarten and elementary school students, the school reflects Moore’s lifelong commitment to education, equity, and social justice. Its mission is to prepare culturally diverse young learners to become global citizens, critical thinkers, and compassionate leaders.
Between 2020 and 2023, Moore found herself deeply affected by the dual crises that shook the United States: the COVID-19 pandemic and the national uprising following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The poems in Reaching for Resilience were written as both a personal and political response to the trauma, grief, and profound sense of injustice that defined that time. Writing became her outlet, her protest, and her path to healing—a way to confront the chaos and reclaim her voice in the face of disorientation and despair.
Moore is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and Memphis State University, and she has pursued further study at Carleton College, Doshisha University in Japan, and the Maryland University of Integrative Health.
With Reaching for Resilience, Linda Moore steps fully into her long-envisioned role as a writer, offering readers a poignant and courageous account of transformation through poetry.
